The word Italy has its origin in the ethnonym ítalo (from the Latin italus) of pre-Roman times, when the term Italy designated only a southern part of today's Calabria, and was inhabited by a population of unknown origin.
Italian society is usually conservative, friendly and quite religious. Family ties are extremely close and they are people of good customs and manners, so it is quite common to see their people greeting or thanking everyone. Italians tend to dress casual.
